Tribute and
transition words to a faithful Service Dog at his Retirement
Hi! I'm Bushnell
- a Service Dog and this is my best friend and partner, Maggie.
We've worked ,
explored, circled & whirled our world together for 8 years.
I am a working
Dog - my job is very important.
I help Maggie in
many ways throughout her days.
In the morning I
bring her shoes. But - there are some mornings
I am so tired I
can hardly get up - I just need to snooze.
At work I help
her open doors and pick up the things she drops to the floors.
but sometimes I
get too busy looking around to say Hi and forget to stay focused
helping Maggie
with chores.
When we go
shopping I pull Maggie in her wheelchair and carry her packages
out to the car.
I love to pull,
its always been one of my favorite tasks but
pant....pant....how much father is it...
pant...pant...to the car?
We do laundry
together, I pull clothes out of the washer and Maggie puts them
in the fryer.
Then I rest my
head on the warm folded clothes stacked higher and higher.
Maggie also
plays with me, Frisbee is still my favorite game.
I run, play &
catch, being airborne is best! But now I must rest.
My heart says
get up & go to work, yet my body says it just has no Perk;
I'd rather stay
sleeping on my comfy bed and be an old dog sleepy head.
When I don't
feel well Maggie takes me to the Vet. Dr. Karen is kind, gentle
and wise.
She gives me
great care and then I feel swell ( OK - at least better ).
Me and Maggie
spend more time resting and cuddling to prepare for my Move Away
Day.
I am going to a
loving family where I'll get to sleep, run, play, splash in a
puddle and get lots of cuddles.
Soon Maggie will
be joined by a Successor Service Dog who will be in its prime,
ready to pick up
even a dime.
The new Canine
Companion and Maggie will cruise through their days, with a
"pull", "tug" and "get it";
while I watch
geese fly in the haze of moon rays.
Thank-you dear
friend for the many years of loving devotion your Partner and
Best Friend, Maggie
