Scott LeRoy and his service dog Rex

Scott and Rex were the first CCI team in Minnesota.  Rex was Scott's wish come true.  Scott said in an autobiography he wrote "Rex is one of the best things that ever happened to me," he said it was something he valued and treasured very much and that "he wouldn't be able to get around and do the things I do today."  Rex gave Scott confidence, unconditional love, and independence.  His dog literally changed his life.
They were the inspiration for the book "My Buddy" written by Audrey Osofsky.  Scott and Rex traveled to Japan following the translation of "My Buddy" to advocate the use and acceptance of service dogs.  At that time there were only 6 service dogs and now over 38 service dogs are working in Japan along with training courses for service dogs.

Rex died Dec. 31, 1999 at the age of 14.  Rex worked well beyond his years, he just loved what he did and loved Scott.  Scott passed away from heart failure related to his muscular dystrophy Dec. 1, 2003 at the age of 28 yrs. old.  Rex's ashes are laid to rest with Scott.  Thank you CCI for the gift you gave our son.  Rex gave Scott more than one could ever hope or dream.
